Scripture: Hebrews 11:8-13

This scripture tells us of the faith of Abraham, the friend of God, and the
father of the faithful
. What does it tell us about Abraham and his faith?

1.      He went out into a place he should after receive as an inheritance (THE

2.      He sojourned in the LAND OF PROMISE as in a strange country.

3.      He looked for a city which has foundation whose builder and maker is
. Romans 4:13 "For the promise, that he should be heir of the world,
was not to Abraham, or to his seed, through the law, but through the
righteousness of faith"

4.      He died not having received the PROMISES

5.      He saw them (THE PROMISES) afar off.

6.      He was persuaded of them (THE PROMISES) Romans 4:20 "He
staggered not at the promise of God through unbelief; but was strong in
faith, giving glory to God

7.      He embraced them (THE PROMISES)

8.      He confessed the he was a stranger and pilgrim on the earth

Abraham was given the promise of the kingdom of God. He looked forward to a
time in the future when God's holy city, the New Jerusalem would be upon the
earth. He was convinced beyond a shadow of a doubt that he, along with Isaac
and Jacob, would be part of this wonderful kingdom. He embraced this fact wi
all his heart, soul, and mind

The word "embrace" means to clasp, cleave to, draw to oneself and
usually is done to another person (one whom we hold dear).
[Syn.: caress,
clasp, encircle, hug, accept, adopt, espouse, receive, subscribe to, welcome,
comprehend, comprise, contain, embody, include, incorporate] In Hebrews 11,
is used in connection with the promises of God and the faith that he will perform
what he has promised. THE PROMISE - eternal life in God's eternal kingdom
here on the earth.
He drew the promises of God to himself because it was
something that he cherished and held as dear, valuable, and important

There were others who embraced God's promises: Job - Job 19:23-27,
Job 14:14-15 "If a man die, shall he live again? All the days of my appointed
time will I wait, till my change come. Thou shalt call, and I will answer thee; thou
wilt have a desire to the work of thine hands"; David - Psalms 37
: 1-11,29,34 and
Psalms 17:15; Enoch - Jude 14 "And Enoch the seventh from Adam,
prophesied saying, Behold the Lord cometh with ten thousand of his saints"; and

appearing of the great God and our Saviour Jesus Christ

Embracing the Promises

The Question: Are we embracing God's great promise of eternal life
in His great kingdom on the earth? Do we cherish, love, and hold
it dear
and near in our hearts and minds?

One of the churches in Revelations (Ephesus, Revelations 2: 1-7) had a lot
of things right about it
. Nevertheless, Christ had somewhat against it - it had left
its first love. The love of the promise that we, through Abraham's seed, would
inherit the earth and dwell therein forever should be first and foremost in our
hearts and minds
. Evidently, for the Ephesians it was not. In the world today,
the focus is no longer on the gospel of the kingdom of God
, but on what Jesus
can do for you today! Why? (The false teaching of the
immortality of the soul)
Peter told about scoffers in the last days 2 Peter 3:3-4 "Knowing this first that
there shall come in the last days scoffers, walking after their own lusts and

saying where is the promise of his coming? For since the fathers fell asleep, all
ings continue as they were from the beginning of creation." Christ also told us
of those who would leave their love for Christ's coming and kingdom
- Matthew
24:48 "But and if that evil servant shall say in his heart, my Lord delayeth his
coming .
.. " and Luke 12:45-49

The evidence for us: Matthew 5:3,5,8,10; 6:9-13(Lord's prayer),33; Daniel 7: 13-
,27; 2 Peter 3:9-13; Philippians 3:20-21; 2 Timothy 4:1; 2 Peter1:10-12

Are we truly embracing God's promises of the kingdom, or are we just
giving it lip service
. 1 John 3:1-3

James 5:7-8 "Be patient therefore, brethren, unto the coming of the Lord. Behold
the husbandman waiteth for the precious fruit of the earth, and hath long
patience for it until he receive the early and latter rain. Be ye also patient;
stablish your hearts: for the coming of the Lord is nigh."

Luke 12:31-32 31: But rather seek ye the kingdom of God; and all these things shall be
added unto you
. 32: Fear not, little flock; for it is your Father's good pleasure to give you the kingdom

Ephesians 1 :5-14 5: Having predestinated us unto the adoption of children by Jesus
Christ to himself, according to the good pleasure of his will
, 6: To the praise of the glory of
his grace, wherein he hath made us accepted in the beloved
. 7: In whom we have
redemption through his blood
, the forgiveness of sins, according to the riches of his
; 8: Wherein he hath abounded toward us in all wisdom and prudence; 9: Having
made known unto us the mystery of his will, according to his good pleasure which he
hath purposed in himself: 10: That in the dispensation of the fulness of times he might
gather together in one all things in Christ
, both which are in heaven, and which are on
even in him: 11: 1n whom also we have obtained an inheritance, being predestinated according to the purpose of him who worketh all things after the counsel of his own will:
12: That we should be to the praise of his glory, who first trusted in Christ
. 13: 1n whom ye
trusted, after that ye heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation: in whom
also after that ye believed
, ye were sealed with that holy Spirit of promise, 14: Which is the
earnest of our inheritance until the redemption of the purchased possession
, unto the
praise of his glory.
